This paper cut-out comes from ”Agnete’s book number five” which Hans Christian Andersen created around Christmas in 1854 for the five year old Agnete Lind.
Agnete was the daughter of the love of his youth, Louise Lind, born Collin.
It is a book with empty pages where the poet who was then 49 year’s old – put funny paper cut-outs from various magazines together with many of his own paper cut-outs.
On the first page of the book Hans Christian Andersen wrote:
”Christmas 1854: Tear the book into pieces it doesn’t mean a great deal – other little friends could have done worse!”
The book can be seen in the House of Hans Christian Andersen.
